Watching C-Mon & Kypski tonight was exactly like seeing four brothers play with new toys on Christmas morning. These guys know how to bring enthusiasm regardless of the circumstances and bring it with utter joy. Park West had the pleasure of hosting their earlier show, I caught up with the band later that evening… much later, around 2 a.m. at Kinetic Playground, the home of late night dance parties here in Chicago. It wasn’t until nearly the end of their set that they told us that it had been well over 24 hours since they had slept. Leaving San Francisco after their show on Thursday they flew to Chicago and played two shows before collapsing (I hope!) Yes, it was a little ropey as my Scottish friends say. But I couldn’t really tell if that was part of their act or just them being exhausted and giddy. I’m very tempted to think that it was their usual stage presence, to be honest.

C-Mon & Kypski’s music has been described as “genre-bending” and “hard to classify.” Yes, I got it after seeing them. The four contain so much talent it bursts out in all directions with rock, electro, indie flavors as well as Britpop harmonies emerging in unexpected places. That’s not to mention some damn good guitar playing and solid rockstar drumming. Oh and the dancing, yes, there were some stage antics and synchronized dancing. It’s almost 5 a.m. and I’m still coming down from the high. They had a dancefloor on it’s feet for the whole set, even as they switched from definite electronica to intentional if not downright mocking American rock n roll. In short, it was a blast! This quartet are capable of doing it all, I’m quite certain. xoxo
