Koot Hoomi: The Dark Side of Hall and Oates... stop resisting cover songs, ya'll!

Ok, I resisted this and for NO GOOD REASON. I love cover songs. This is a tribute album that is made by true fans of Hall and Oates. I love Hall and Oates. And I’m old enough to be a true Hall and Oates fan from the start of their career. Why didn’t I post on this sooner? Here’s the real reason: I’ve been listening to this thing non-stop and telling everyone I know about it. Honest, it’s the truth. Koot Hoomi is a collective of musicians who aren’t necessarily famous (yet) but should be. There’s a really nice feel to many of these songs, a mellow, sad, hazy sort of late afternoon feel. Here’s what the press release says about how this album was recorded, I’m repeating it here for you, because it’s kinda cool: “The project was largely recorded in living rooms and basements, using cheap instruments and an old-school Tascam 488 analog tape recorder, giving it a fascinating, low-fi allure.”

There is a little of everything on this album. You’ll find a bunch of acoustic, folk versions of songs you know and of some songs that only us die-hard fans recognize. But you’ll also be surprised by some rather odd renderings of tracks like “I Can’t Go For That” and “Adult Education.” Yeah, I’ll never listen to those songs the same way again. And that’s pretty much everything you can ask for from a tribute album. I’m loving this, xoxo

  • It’s good ain’t it. I never got round to playing a track or ‘reviewing’ it pre-WOXY crash, so I have to say apologies to the lovely PR lady who sent it across.
