wherein a Tart weasels her way into the Contrast Podcast….

hairSo yeah, I was a bit giddy the other night and had the brilliant idea to get Still Life Still some more space on the ‘net. When you’re smitten with a band these things occur to you in the middle of the night. I’d been listening to their album, Girls Come Too and well, the theme for last week’s Contrast Podcast was “hair.” Usually we try to use the theme in the band name or in the title of the track. But none of the songs on Girls Come Too had the word hair in them, nor did they even allude to hair or hair colors or anything remotely to do with hair. In fact, most of the lyrics are either nonsensical or filthy. I’d love to pick their brain – whoever the lyricist is of the group, and figure out if there’s a reason behind the nonsense or if it’s just drug/alcohol induced rambling of pretty words. Not that I’m judging, nope. Either way, it works! The filth I understand completely, no explanation needed.

But I wanted to represent. I always consider the Contrast Podcast as a place to turn people on to new music, or weird old music that maybe just I and my little corner of the world listens to. So I scanned the album for anything that might work. And yes, ”Planets” worked! It’s a cool, smooth little song with lots of electro magic in it and a swooning vocal with a delayed backup that just whacks you out if you listen to it carefully. It’s got two lines right at the beginning that say: “Why are the planets all here? So we can lie on a comet and comb our hair… Why are the planets all here? So we can lie to each other if you hold my hair.” Now you tell me what that means and I’ll let you comb my hair, darlin’s xoxo

Go hear the podcast over here … I sound like a maniac, but I swear I just couldn’t stop giggling… it was 4 a.m. gimme a break, eh?

(by the way, you know anyone can contribute to the Contrast Podcast… you don’t have to know any of us to do it… just go read about it and sign up!)
