Cymbals Eat Guitars and the Pains of Being Pure at Heart: on tour together through October

cymbalseatWell darlings, this fall is turning out to be quite exciting for getting my live music fix! The hype is growing about Cymbals Eat Guitars to the extent that everyone from the New York Times to ABC NOW news (which has an odd/funny interview wherein a band member says that the younger two bandmates somehow sprang forth from Neil Berenholz’s vagina… how does that even get on ABC news?). So, the hype over Why There Are Mountains grows, that was my original point, wasn’t it? There’s a WOXY session of Cymbals Eat Guitars. There’s a Pitchfork video and a new song “Tunguska” streaming over there too:

But honestly, the real news is that you should go see them play. I’m waiting to make up my mind about this band. I’ll be honest and tell you that I’m on the fence about Cymbals Eat Guitars. I’m not totally smitten with the album yet. But I’m completely willing to be won over by the live show. And with them, for all of September and most of October is the Pains of Being Pure at Heart (along with the Depreciation Guild – remember that video I squirmed over? yumm!) Now that’s what I call a lineup! Higher Than The Stars, the new EP by the Pains is out September 22, and you’ll know as soon as I get one. It’s definitely on my to-be-reviewed list after they woo’d me at Pitchfork Fest this summer with ”Come Saturday” and ”Everything With You”. I’d say, all in all, there’s a very good chance you’ll hear a good review from this show, xoxo

Already had the Casbah date on the calendar. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have been moving up my depth chart. It’s a Monday night, but you know how I roll. Casbah is a cool venue. Kind of small, 2 rooms attached by an outdoor patio.

    • oooh well, you’re gonna love them in that type of venue and don’t come late and miss the Depreciation Guild. The way they play guitar is so smooth, I found myself inching toward the back of the room (also a small venue) so they wouldn’t see me “dancing” and making a right fool of myself ;)

sounds as if it will be a fun night. Review plus photos pleeez

    • Will do, darling! I’m REALLY looking forward to this, although after this weekend, I’m feeling quite spoilt, such good music I’ve had lately! Now if only you’d get over here and enjoy some with me, xoxo

cymbals eat guitars? THAT SINGER IS A TOTAL TOOL. Frontman? Hell no? Not even “front boy”
Sincere? Not even trying. No soul. No heart. He lacks any emotion. All he wants to do is hide his vocals behind his bedroom mirror guitar shredding. What the hell is he saying in between songs? He mumbles about tuning or sweating or something. PEOPLE PAY TO SEE YOU PERFORM TOOL BAG. Your performance is lacking in the IT factor that take bands to the next level. That make people fall in love and swear that they’ll love you forever. Your music doesnt do that. You are flavor of the month for indies. We all like something new. So thanks for the shows, but we’ve seen enough.
You will never get there buddy, so go back home to staten island already.Im so tired of reading these posts that I finally had to write about this crap-o band and the most un-talented adolescent singer I’ve ever seen in my life.

    • Well, well, well, my little hater from Forest Hills, Queens, you may wish to remain “anonypous” but that gives you no cloak to hide your own inadequacies. If you only wish to endlessly critique performers and offer nothing constructive or imaginative of your own to the discussion here then kindly take your adolescent opinions to some other blog where the other children play. Personal attacks are pointless, looking for some “it” factor will undeniably leave you in such a state as this, whereupon you will shout needlessly on innocent bystanders’ front yards in the middle of the night. Now, shove off.
