Slideshow Freak: We Should Swing EP

Jamie Wright is an Englishman who records some nice, raw, electronica in his home studio under the name Slideshow Freak. The wonderful folks over at Filthy Little Angels have picked him up and sent him out to bloggers like me, thankfully! (Have you got yourself over to FLA yet? You really should, it’s a goldmine for some really hot, new music and for loads of free downloads!) I can’t tell you how much music I’ve found from Filthy Little Angels — it’s criminal, the number of artists they promote!

But back to Slideshow Freak, he’s full of hooks, he’s got a very well-rounded EP that you can get absolutely free for one month over on the FLA site. And, if you like heart-broken lyrics coupled with low-fi electronic, one-man stylings, well you’re in luck! “Something More” is just gorgeous and has stuck in my head all day, while “Get Up And Go” is the kind of sad song that I try to not listen to over an over again but can’t help myself. Sometimes when you really pare things down you find real beauty in the humanity of music, I think. Slideshow Freak won’t amaze you with intricacy or musical virtuosity, but it just might make you feel kindly about that guy whose heart you broke in 10th grade. xoxo
