Whew! I’m just stopping by for a quick update… it’s been a crazy two days of amazing music, literally mind blowing momentsĀ ”The Love Life of the Octopus” (Yo La Tengo) where I’ve stood in the midst of a crowd with my mouth hanging open (often remembered to clap my hand over it, thankfully) and a few times where I’ve just raised my hands in the air to clap and holler in glee (The National). There’s also been some fun twittering with bloggers who are RIGHT THERE in the same crowd but who I have no idea what they look like (they could be standing right next to me!) hehehe I love being anonymous!
And, there’s been some good times of just mellowing out, swaying to the tunes with complete strangers, head nodding, ears full of trumpets and gorgeous voices, and a drummer who can’t stop grinning (yes, Beirut). I’ve been woo’d …. totally new bands have won me over even though I knew nothing of them (The Antlers) And girly-faced boys have, as usual, not panned out, but rather have only shown that a pretty face does not a talented musician make (Wavves)… hey, I was more than willing to give them another shot or wait around to see another meltdown!
And just as I suspected, what was highly recommended came through in spades! (The Dutchess and The Duke) thank you DC xoxo! I was surprised to love one that I had written off as too hip to be all that good, oh shame on me (The Pains of Being Pure at Heart) and very happy to reaffirm my belief that some crazy mutherfucking hardcore punk rockers have a great sense of humor and sound like really nice guys when they’re not “singing” (Fucked Up… and kudos to Pink Eyes, the lead singer for wearing a deflated beach ball on his head). Oh and the Jesus Lizard were awesome and still kickin it after all these years! And the little wifey fell in love with Final Fantasy
See?!? See why I need a breather? And I didn’t even tell you about the after party I went to last night, oh. my. god. Let’s just say The Depreciation Guild were so, so, so good.
In less than twelve hours I’m going to be losing my shit over Frightened Rabbit and I’m so excited I can’t possibly sleep except that I’m so fucking exhausted that I’m going to just lie down and drop into a coma right now. So wow, just wow. The Tart is completely wasted on this musical orgy here. Thank fuck I don’t drink anymore, can you imagine? Wow. Hang in there darlings, I’ll get coherent sometime on Monday I think, xoxoxo

Glad you caught The National, and am so envious that you’ve seen The Antlers – I’ve become quite the fan of those guys lately. Frightened Rabbit are brilliant live, you’ll have an awesome time. Enjoy!
Can’t believe I’ve never seen any of these bands yet! I’m like a virgin all over again :-p
Thanks so much for “dragging me along,” wifey! You mentioned how much I loved (loved! loved!) Final Fantasy but you forgot to mention how hard I fell for the delicious Yeasayers! Link, link!!! I also had to admit that Beirut was really, really awesome, after initially sneering at their first couple songs as “hipster polka.” ultimately they carried me away with that beautiful brass and beautiful voice… And was it just the music that made me think the lead singer was beautiful too?
Just wanna add that the crowd has been great… Really great. The cops just stand around with nothing to do. And whoever heard of so many vegetarian/vegan options at an enormous outdoor event? The mind boggles.
Thanks for coming with me, wifey
We had some good fun together this weekend and you were a good sport, not that you needed to be even. Let it be known that when I gave up due to sheer exhaustion, you took matters into your own hands and plowed through the crowd to get a good listen to the Walkmen. Good girl! xoxo
