Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros: “Desert Song”

edwardsharpeetalThe debut album from Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, “Up From Below”, will be available on July 14th in the US and July 13th in the UK. And yes, I realize this is popping up on a lot of blogs, but hey, that’s good PR folks!

Edward Sharpe has gone through a sort of reincarnation, or readjustment or rehab some rumors say. He’s dropped out, or dropped in or found himself… in any event he’s found his voice in music again with a sound that is riding the wave of our current nostalgia for 60s psychedelica.

from the YouTube clip:
This is PART 1 of a 12-Part feature-length movie musical. The opening footage is of singer Alex Ebert’s father chanting in Monument Valley – shot by his mother. Desert Song is about Alex’s reckoning with the middle name his father secretly wrote on his birth certificate – a Native American name which means ‘Devil’ or ‘Demon’.

Do me a favor…. turn this on and then go click here and just listen…. it’s beautiful, but I don’t want your ears to see the video first. I know it’s anachronistic or blasphemous or something but you know everyone is calling this hippy this and Arcade Fire that and well, I just like the sound of it. Is that so wrong? Just hear what Alex Ebert, aka Edward Sharpe has created. Then go back and look at the video. You’ll want more, I think.
