Andrew Bird: Noble Beast “Oh No”

noblebeast_cover120Folk-rock genius, Andrew Bird is touring this summer to promote Noble Beast. That is not news to anyone, my darlings. But…what IS news is that if you’re lucky enough to live in or rich enough to travel to NYC you can receive a free download of the never-before released Live at the Precipice when you purchase tickets for the Radio City show. The ten-song set was recorded last month on Andrew Bird‘s Noble Beast tour.

LIVE AT THE PRECIPICE TRACK LISTING

1. Masterswarm
2. A Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left
3. Tenuousness
4. Natural Disaster
5. Effigy
6. Oh No
7. Armchairs
8. Anonanimal
9. Fake Palindromes
10. Headsoak

Well, that’s no small thing, now is it?!? I’ve listened to a bit of this wonder of a man. I am intimidated enough to venture further into the depths of his mind just a bit more. See, it takes a bit of fear to get me really intrigued, to really turn me on, same with you? There’s nothing more titillating than the fear of going just too far to turn back. And some of Bird’s music takes you to that place of no turning back. More to follow… I’ve not digested enough of it to have a clear cut reaction yet. Do tell me what you think of the man, please, xoxo  …… do go and buy the album please.

  • Rampant Chutney Consumerism

    god i’m jealous…..

    • just come visit, darling… we’ll run away to NYC, MChutney and you and I, and have a glorious time! hehehe

  • Oh you have got to go see him! the man is a genius on record but even more so live. one not to be missed trust me. was just recenlty at his show and he captivated the audience for over an hour with nothing more than a violin, a loop pedal and a little bit of electric guitar. wonderful.

    • Well, I would *like* to see the man, but this being his home town, the tickets are sold out in about 4 mins. every time he comes back, grrrr! But maybe someday! I do have to thank you and Matthew and the gang over on Song by Toad for pushing me to listen at all, I’m glad I did, xoxo

  • why the fuck do i have a michael jackson avatar!?!?! haha

  • andrew bird is a joy to behold. in addition to what euan says about his musical machinations–how he does it, actually, is a wonder–his face is even more wonderful to watch. he’s so expressive, so fluid! he puts his all into every note.

explore the depths of andrew bird, dear tart! you will not be disappointed. :)

    • The vids of him are amazing! Thanks Marcy, will do! What’s the best album to start with? I’ve really not sat down and mad a serious all-day study yet. xoxo

  • oooh, i’m debby harry, too!

  • re: the avatars–at first i was confused, because i always thought rampant chutney was a guy, so then i was like, well, that’ll teach me to have preconceived ideas about people! but then when i turned up as debbie, too, i figured it was just random.

about the albums. hmmmm. i have the mysterious production of eggs, armchair apocrypha and of course, noble beast. he has a couple earlier records, too, one called weather systems and i can’t remember the others.

but this is tough. some people like the older stuff coz it’s quirkier and less polished. i know matthew thought armchair strayed a bit too far from his earlier stuff. but i really, really loved armchair and noble beast is still my number one record of the year, so i don’t agree with him. that being said, however, i might start with mysterious because it will give you a feel for how he’s evolving his sound and his lyrics. (armchair was my number 2 album last year, btw). hope that helps. you really can’t go wrong. :)

  • either that or start with noble beast–i really can’t make up my mind!

  • Well, I’ve had Noble Beast on in the background a time or two and it’s good. But I want to listen intently before I jump in with both feet. Thanks for the suggestions, xoxo
